2010 Athens Cuisine Showcase Rules

Rules to participate

  1. Any chef, cook, restaurant, food producer in the southern Ohio region may enter.
  2. Entry fee, $10, due by June 25, 2010.
  3. Ingredients used must be included with entry fee (to alert those with allergies).
  4. Entry categories:
    • A. Amateur: those who do not earn income by cooking.
    • B. Semi-pro: those who are in or have received formal training for cooking, food preparation, or as a chef.
    • C. Pro: those who earn income from cooking (can include chefs at restaurants, caterers, educational institutions.)
    Food categories:
    • A. Appetizer
    • B.Salad
    • C. Entrée, main dish
    • D. Side dish
    • E. Dessert
    • F. Vegetarian entry

  5. Entries must use locally-grown or produced ingredients. Your entry form must list the local ingredients used, and name of company, if applicable. Entries should be made using one Ohio craft brew, or made to be paired with a specific Ohio craft brew. Entry form must list the craft brews selected for your entry.
  6. Entry must be prepared and ready to serve and should be divided into sample size portions, enough to feed 75. (2-3 oz. portions). Name of the dish needs to be written on a 4x5 card. Your name, and organization name should be included as well.
  7.   Entrants must follow all state of Ohio and Athens County Health Department health regulations.
  8. Entries must arrive, already prepared, at Abrio’s Brick Oven, 859 E. State St., Athens no later than 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Warming ovens, chafing dishes, coolers and freezers are available. Limited use of kitchen is available.
  9. A panel of judges, local celebreties and beer experts will sample your entry along with the general public. Judges awards will be presented at the end of the meal session. The general public will also sample the entries and vote for the People’s Choice Awards in each category.
  10.  OBW is not responsible for serving dishes and utensils. You may pick up your dishes either after the Awards ceremony, around 8:30, Tuesday, April 13, or the next morning.
  11. Your name, picture and info about your dish will be included on the OBW website and other OBW publications and marketing materials.
  12. Ohio Brew Week is not responsible for lost, stolen, illegible, misdirected or late entries. By entering the contest, entrant accepts and agrees to these requirements and the decisions of the judges, which shall be final.
  13. Ohio Brew Week organizers are not eligible to participate.
  14. Judging Criteria: Entries judged on Flavor (40%), Texture (20%), Appearance (20%) and Creativity (20%). The top 3 winners in each category will receive a ribbon, an award certificate, and Ohio Brew Week t-shirt (or apron) and other prizes.
  15. Honorable Mention for the Top Choice for Best Use of Ohio Craft brew, will receive a ribbon, an award certificate and Ohio Brew Week t-shirt.
  16. Grand Prize winner, Best Use of Ohio Craft brew: and 1st; 2nd ; 3rd.
  17. Prizes in each category: A. Appetizer (1st, 2nd, 3rd); B. Salad, 1st, 2nd, 3rd; C. Entrée, main dish, 1st, 2nd, 3rd; D. Side dish: 1st, 2nd, 3rd; E. Dessert, 1st, 2nd, 3rd; F. Vegetarian, 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Specific prizes to be posted on ohiobrewweek.com. Other prizes may be offered.
  18. Taxes from prizes are the responsibility of the winner.
